PERSONAL INFORMATION: Leslie Gushwa

I have been teaching since 1984, prior to that I worked in a variety of research fields.  I spent 10 years doing kidney research at UCSD and a year and a half at Scripps Clinic and Research Institute working on leukemia chemotherapy research.  Prior to that I worked at SDSU getting my Master's Degree in Microbiology and teaching courses in Microbiology.

I have been married since 1973 to my wonderful husband, Greg Gushwa.  Greg is an American Government teacher at Santana High School in the Grossmont District.  We have a grown foster daughter, Clair and oodles of great nieces and nephews.  My parents Sam and Keila are both happy and healthy. My Dad ran for his first elected office (City Councilman) at the age of 80.  He is now retired from City Council, but is an active 84 years of age!!

In 1998, I was selected as San Diego County Teacher of the Year.  It was a wonderful experience.   My greatest honor was being selected as the FIRST San Dieguito High School Academy Teacher of the Year!LeslieQueen.gif (223938 bytes)

Outside of loving teaching and my students, I have many hobbies and outside interests.  I love to read (voraciously), snow ski (downhill), backpack, cook, paint (watercolors), crochet, and ride my bike.
